Mr. Zangara joined the company on September 21, 2009, and has spent nearly 17 years leading the production floor, shaping the company’s manufacturing operations, and mentoring generations of employees.

During his tenure, Mr. Zangara oversaw the company’s daily production scheduling, quality standards, and vendor relationships, and was widely regarded on the floor as a steady, approachable leader with an open-door policy. He played a central role in growing Galaxy Wire and Cable’s manufacturing capabilities and in building a culture centered on communication, continuous improvement, and mutual respect between leadership and the production team.

“John has been an extraordinary partner in building this company, and his fingerprints are on nearly every process that keeps our floor running well today. His dedication to our people and our customers has been unmatched, and while he will be greatly missed, he leaves behind a strong foundation and a well-prepared team,” said Eric Lutz, CEO of Galaxy Wire and Cable.

To ensure a smooth transition, Galaxy Wire and Cable has structured a multi-month overlap between Mr. Zangara and Michael Finnigan, who joined the company earlier this year as Manufacturing Manager. The transition plan includes shared floor time, direct introductions to key customer and vendor contacts, and a phased handoff of scheduling and production responsibilities, all designed so that day-to-day operations continue without disruption.

“My job has always been to make the team’s job easier, and I’m proud of what we’ve built together on this floor,” said John Zangara. “I’m confident in the team we have in place, and I’m looking forward to watching Galaxy continue to grow.”

Mr. Zangara’s last day with the company will be August 1, 2026. Galaxy Wire and Cable thanks him for his nearly two decades of service and wishes him well in retirement.

Galaxy Wire and Cable, Inc. has been in business for over 27 years and is located in Horsham, PA. Over the years, Galaxy has acquired numerous certifications that have improved its business and helped earn new customers. Some of these certifications are quality oriented, such as IPC/WHMA-A-620 and ISO 9001:2015. Other certifications are based upon business classification. For example, Galaxy is classified as Small Woman Owned Business by WBENC, as well as a certified HUBZone company.

Over the past few years, Galaxy has obtained UCP DBE (Unified Certification Program for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) in several states. Beginning with our home state of PA, Galaxy currently holds DBE certifications in California, Illinois, Texas, Idaho, and Alaska. These certifications have helped Galaxy become a stronger company from a quality management standpoint, but they have also helped customers earn contracts by partnering with Galaxy on various projects in which these certifications were crucial for the customer to win the business.

Most notably, Galaxy’s certifications with a current customer became a huge asset for both parties. The customer is a leader in the transit industry, and many of their contracts are with states and local municipalities. A certain percentage of these contracts are required to be fulfilled by companies that are registered as DBE organizations. So this customer partnered with Galaxy for their bids and Galaxy simultaneously earned the necessary certifications state by state to meet the DBE requirements. Without these certifications, the likelihood of the customer winning the contracts was very low. Because Galaxy was willing to put the time and effort into the certification process, both companies enjoyed a significant increase in business.

Please contact Galaxy for more information about its certifications and how partnering with Galaxy can possibly help with gaining new business.

What does this mean? Often a design engineer will select a wire or cable from a common brand name manufacturer, or a Mil-Spec or UL style, that will fit the application. It does the trick electrically and environmentally, so not much thought goes into investigating whether there are other constructions that can save time, money, or both. These cables are specified, and many times they are way more robust than they need to be based on what’s commonly available. Galaxy’s Sales Engineers are trained to evaluate a cable for its end application, and on numerous occasions, have helped redesign cables so customers can save on materials, sometimes significantly, while still meeting the application’s requirements.

A prime example of this happened when Galaxy entered a business relationship to build many thousands of high temperature wiring harnesses for a customer’s new lighting product launch. After a site visit and discussions with the mechanical and electrical product design group, it was discovered that a very common UL style of hook-up wire was being utilized for the build. It was readily available, and met the temperature requirement. However, one of our Senior Sales Engineers questioned just how high the temperature needed to be. It turns out that the customer’s product could utilize 150°C material rather than the more standard 200°C material. This meant swapping out silver plated copper and changing the UL style to meet 150°C with tinned copper. The suggested new material is a lesser-known UL style, but this simple swap resulting is a savings for the entire project of over six figures.

Utilizing a wire and cable company that specializes in helping to select the right construction for an end use can be critical for a customer’s bottom line. There is nobody better than Galaxy to make sure over-specified wire and cable products are made more efficiently. For help with reducing costs while still meeting requirements please contact Galaxy for assistance.

Galaxy relishes opportunities that present a challenge, and a recent customer request for a very specific flat maritime cable stretched our resources, but we still were able to meet a tough challenge.

In this particular case, the customer had some very unusual and quite specific needs for a cable to use in a maritime application. First off, the cable had to be flat. It had a Kevlar® strength member. And maybe most unusual, it required Surlyn® insulation material. One other quirk – 27 gauge conductor wire was designate; most gauges are even numbers. This cable has no jacket.

This is a example of something we see from time to time – a difficulty with design for manufacturability. In this case, there were design specifications that were difficult to make with typical manufacturing capabilities.

In this case, Galaxy really had to scramble to come up with the manufacturing capabilities for this flat maritime cable. In particular, some new tooling needed to be created to make this unusual cable in a flat shape, coupled with the non-standard conductor gauge, unusual insulation, and Kevlar strength member. But Galaxy was able to get the prototypes made and in the hands of the customer for testing in a timely manner. The prototypes were approved and production is now in process.

We do recommend that designers consider how easy or difficult it will be to get the manufacturing done. Design for manufacturing should be considered early in the process to keep costs lower and time to production faster.

If your company has an unusual or tough to manufacture custom cable, Galaxy has the experience and expertise to help. Galaxy is well known in the industry for being able solve tough problems like this. Please contact Galaxy for assistance.
