GalTEC™ Cables – Galaxy’s Downhole Tubing Encapsulated Conductor Cable (TEC Cable)

GalTEC (Galaxy Tubing Encapsulated Conductor) CableGalaxy is a leading supplier of downhole TEC (Tubing Encapsulated Conductor) cables that are used in the oil & gas industry. GalTEC cables are used to monitor, provide power and transmit signals in a downhole application. Cables used in the oil & gas industry must be able to withstand extreme environments, extreme temperatures and extreme pressure which is why GalTec cables are the choice of industry professionals.

What are GalTEC™ Cables?

GalTEC (Tubing Encapsulated Conductor) cables are TEC cables that have the traditional characteristics of standard wires or cables – they have some form or copper conductor surrounded by an insulation material or jacket. The difference comes when the standard wire or the tubing layer that surrounds the product with an armored metal component. Lastly, the final layer encapsulates the entire cable. GalTEC tubing encapsulated cables can withstand temperature ranges from 150°C to 300°C.

Galaxy Differentiators / Advantages for GalTEC™ Cables

While TEC cables can be found throughout the oil & gas industry, Galaxy is the leader in how quickly these tubing encapsulated cables can be manufactured. Typically, the core cables have an additional filler layer extruded over them. After that step in the manufacturing process these cables are usually shipped out to a different facility to have the armor layer applied. This is where Galaxy can offer substantial time and cost savings. There is no need to ship out the cable for the armoring of the cable – it is all done in one location which significantly decreases lead time and cost. GalTEC tubing encapsulated cable can be composed of multiple different constructions using multiple different compounds and materials.

GalTEC™ Cable Applications

There are numerous different applications for the use of GalTEC cables / TEC cable. These applications can include, but are not limited to:

  • Oil and gas refineries
  • Oil well monitoring
  • Powering downhole equipment and instrumentation
  • Underground power distribution
  • Substation connections
  • Pressure sensing equipment
  • Data collection

GalTEC™ Cable Materials

GalTEC tubing encapsulated cables are made with 5 layers and can be constructed with the following materials:

  1. Conductor Layer: can be comprised of 20 AWG to 12 AWG, solid or stranded, bare copper, tinned copper, nickel plated copper, or silver plated copper.
  2. Insulation Layer: can be comprised of either FEP, PFA, ETFE, or ECTFE.
  3. Extruded Filler Layer: can be comprised of PFA, FEP, or Polypropylene.
  4. Armor Layer: can comprised of 316L Stainless Steel, Alloy 825, or Alloy 625
  5. Final Layer: an encapsulation layer can be comprised of FEP, PFA, ETFE, ECTFE, TPV, PVDF, Rilsan® 11, or Polypropylene.

FAQs about GalTEC™ TEC Cable

Can additional tubes be added to GalTEC cables?

Yes, additional capillary tubes can be added to the construction of GalTEC cables. These cables would typically be known as flatpacks for control line cables. These capillary tubes can be used to transmit fluids or chemicals.

What is another term used for TEC Cable?

Another name that is often used to describe TEC Cable is TSC – Tubular Stranding Cable. These terms are interchangeable.
